Our Paper Got Published in IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement 🎉

We have been working on this for two years. It started as an undergrad capstone project, and then we submitted the manuscript based on our project report. But that version was not up to the mark, and we were given a long list of reviews to improve the paper. After two rounds of reviews and final proof-reading, the paper is now finally published.

I had the opportunity to lead our efforts in research and writing. The process was grueling because of my lack of any previous experience. But, I learned a whole lot about researching and authoring a paper, and I feel my perspective as an academic has improved vastly as a result. I intend to write a verbose account of my experience as a blog post soon.

This Made My Day, and It can Make Yours Too

I just came across this article by Suzana Camargo on Hacker News, and wanted to put this moment of inspiration on record here. Amazing project, just proves that if we put a pinch of creative thinking in a bucket full of empathy, we can craft solution to difficult social problems that can potentially save lives.

Building a Guitar Tuner in Zig, with Pulseaudio as Audio Backend

I have spent the summer vacation building a tuner for my guitar in Zig, with pulseaudio as the backend for audio. I went down the rabbit hole of real-time audio–wait free ring buffers, asynchronous programming, atomic operations, memory ordering–very exciting stuff. This project even lead to my first open source PR! Merged by Andrew Kelley himself. I will be writing a multi-part blog post on this soon. Stay tuned!

Reviewer 2 was Actually Nice

The experience of polishing the research and its presentation through feedback from expert reviewers felt meaningful. The final manuscript turned out to be a much better version of its previous iteration. One invaluable lesson I learned is that the presentation of the research carries equal importance, if not more, to the work itself.
